Kodak Black’s Latest Arrest Sparks Bigger Conversation About Trauma, Addiction & Fame

The 28-year-old artist, born Bill Kahan Kapri, surrendered to authorities Wednesday and was booked into the Orange County Corrections Department on a charge of trafficking MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy or molly. Authorities reportedly allege the drugs were discovered during an investigation connected to a November 2025 incident involving reports of gunfire near Orlando’s Children’s Safety Village.

According to court documents, officers responding to the scene allegedly searched multiple vehicles after detecting the odor of marijuana. Investigators claim they recovered MDMA, cash, and personal items linked to Kodak Black during the search.

Kodak Black’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, described the arrest as a “coordinated surrender” and pushed back against the trafficking charge, arguing the case has a “weak legal basis.” Cohen told reporters the rapper was not inside the vehicle where the alleged drugs were discovered and said the defense intends to aggressively challenge the charges in court.

The arrest adds to the rapper’s lengthy history of legal troubles, which have included prior weapons, assault, and drug-related cases. Kodak Black previously served federal prison time on firearms charges before receiving a commutation from President Donald Trump in 2021.

The South Florida rapper rose to prominence with breakout records including “No Flockin,” “Tunnel Vision,” “ZEZE,” and “Super Gremlin,” helping cement him as one of the most commercially successful artists to emerge from Florida’s rap scene over the past decade.
