Keffe D: Diddy Had U.S. Navy SEAL Protection But Preferred The Crips, Made Declaration in Front of O.J.’s Daughter
A recording played during the Tupac Shakur murder trial gave jurors a remarkable look at Keffe D’s account of how his relationship with Sean “Diddy” Combs developed amid the escalating Bad Boy–Death Row feud.
During his proffer with investigators, Keffe D described an alleged understanding that the South Side Compton Crips would help protect Bad Boy and its people against threats involving Death Row.
But according to Keffe D, Diddy wasn't exactly walking around unprotected.
He claimed Combs already had serious professional security around him men Keffe repeatedly described to investigators as “Navy SEALs.”
Keffe D then recalled a meeting where he claimed Combs made an angry declaration about wanting Death Row’s “heads.” According to his account, members of the security team were nearby, along with one of O.J. Simpson’s daughters, who Keffe remembered being dressed for Halloween.
Then investigators asked the obvious question:
If Diddy already had Navy SEALs protecting him, why would he need Keffe D and the South Side Crips?
Keffe D’s answer caught them off guard.
Asked whether he'd rather have a Navy SEAL or a gangster protecting him, Keffe essentially picked the gangsters, arguing that his guys were better suited for what was happening in the streets.
Investigators laughed and challenged him on the idea before summing up the unusual arrangement: according to Keffe D, Combs allegedly had “legit security” and then “these gangsters.”
It’s another extraordinary piece of Keffe D’s decades-old account now being heard by jurors as prosecutors examine the relationships connecting Bad Boy, Death Row and the South Side Crips in the period leading up to Tupac’s murder.
Keffe D’s statements are allegations made during his proffer and should not be treated as independently established facts.
