In the film, Jordan plays twin brothers Smoke and Stack, navigating survival, identity, and legacy in 1930s Mississippi. The dual performance pushed Jordan into a new acting lane, balancing two characters with completely different energies in the same story.
Jordan’s journey, rom a young actor on The Wire to starring roles in Fruitvale Station, Creed, and the monumental Black Panther mirrors the evolution of modern Black storytelling in mainstream cinema.
During his acceptance speech, Jordan acknowledged the legacy that came before him, nodding to the trailblazers who opened doors for actors like him. His win places him in a historic lineage that includes Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, and Jamie Foxx, a short but powerful list of Black men who have won Hollywood’s top acting honor.
“Everybody in this room and everybody at home for supporting my career" Jordan said in acknowledgement of his prized award. "I know you guys want me to do well, and and I wanna do that because you guys bet on me. So thank you for keeping on betting on me.”
