TLC’s Chilli Responds After Trump Donation Reports and Michelle Obama Controversy

One third of classic R&B iconic group TLC, “Chilli," is facing backlash after public records revealed she made financial contributions to organizations tied to Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign while also drawing criticism for a social media post involving former First Lady Michelle Obama.

According to federal election records, Thomas donated more than $1,000 to Republican fundraising groups, including platforms connected to Trump’s campaign. The revelations quickly sparked debate online with fans questioning her political alignment.

In response, Chilli took to social media to clarify that she does not support Trump or the MAGA movement, calling the donations a misunderstanding.

“I made a mistake. I did not read the fine print,” the singer spoke. She said she believed the contributions were directed toward causes she supports including efforts against human trafficking and programs benefiting veterans.

The controversy intensified after a video was briefly shared on her account promoting a conspiracy theory about Michelle Obama. Chilli said the repost was accidental, attributing it to a technical error and her unfamiliarity with social media controls. She emphasized her respect for the former First Lady and her past support for Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns.

Despite her explanation, a large majority of the TLC base were having none of it. Since the news hit, other singers including Dawn Richardson from popular group En Vogue and even Big Boi from Outkast were subjected to similar accusations of supporting the MAGA base.

The situation arrives at a pivotal moment for TLC, which recently announced an upcoming tour with Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue, a rollout now unfolding under heightened public scrutiny.
